How to Play Oddones: A Daily Word Association Game

·3 min read

Oddones asks one useful question: which word breaks the pattern? Each round trains you to compare meaning, tone, and word relationships quickly.

Four words appear in each tile. Three belong together, often because they share a meaning, mood, or broad category. The fourth is the impostor. It may be an antonym, a word from a different category, or simply a near miss that sounds convincing at first glance.

How a Round Works

Choose any available tile on the daily grid. Read all four words before committing, then tap the word that does not share the group's relationship. Blue, yellow, and red tiles allow different amounts of thinking time, so start with the tiles where the pattern is obvious.

  1. 01Name the connection you see before selecting anything: synonym, emotion, object type, or another shared trait.
  2. 02Compare the remaining word against that connection instead of choosing the word that merely feels unusual.
  3. 03Use the review screen after the board to inspect patterns that fooled you and build stronger associations for the next puzzle.

A Reliable Way to Break Ties

When two choices both seem possible, look for the tightest shared meaning. For example, if three words point to calmness and one points to excitement, the excitement word is the outlier even if all four describe emotions. Precise groupings beat broad ones.
